Recent question about Kingsville’s position on GREENHOUSE LIGHTING and CANNABIS ODOUR.

We passed this by-law in the fall of 2020: Odour and Lighting from the Cultivation of Plants Nuisance Bylaw.

We recently received an update which included info that a few fines were given but presently Kingsville greenhouses are compliant. THANK YOU to our staff for conducting after hours enforcement and to the greenhouse owners for using curtains and helping to keep our skies dark at night. The glow you see is likely from outside our jurisdiction. HOWEVER, if you see a by-law infraction in Kingsville (of any kind) you can report it, by-law enforcement is complaint driven.

Provide the specific address where the concern is and your contact information – this is especially required for a ‘nuisance by-law’ which is what the odour and lighting by-law is.

The odour by-law applies to ALL cannabis growing, not just in greenhouses. Report the address of where the concerns are coming from and our by-law officer will enforce. If this is your neighbour, perhaps you want to have a conversation with them first? Quaint friendly towns happen because of the people and communicating with each other, if at all possible, should be the first step.
